PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Field Service Engineer is responsible for assisting and performing warranty repairs and the commissioning of SMA utility inverters in the field. The Field Service Engineer is responsible for assisting with commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, and learning to analyze data, operation and maintenance activity, and utility inverter applications.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
⢠Assists with commissioning, troubleshoots, repairs, and analyzes SMA Americaâs utility inverters in the field, via email, telephone, and site visits.
⢠Develops a detailed knowledge of SMAâs utility inverter products, associated SMA accessories, and third-party accessories sold by SMA for use with the inverters.
⢠Maintains an accurate inventory count of spare parts provided by SMA.
⢠Works regularly with high voltage DC electricity, three phase power, and the relevant software and firmware of the inverters.
⢠Maintains a high level of customer satisfaction while striving to lower the costs of field service.
⢠Assists with, performs, and maintains maintenance activities in accordance with the SMA product maintenance manual on assigned sites with SMA customer contractual obligations.
⢠Other duties as may be required or assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
⢠A bachelorâs degree in a technical field is strongly preferred, or equivalent experience working in the renewables industry.

Youâll be the founding backend engineer on a new Growth team - a cross-functional squad owning the full customer funnel, from a parent first considering Nanit through purchase, subscription, engagement, and eventually referring to us or buying again. Own the backend behind growth bets. Build and ship the services powering paywalls, subscription tiering, onboarding journeys, in-app messaging, referral mechanics, trial models, and checkout bundling.
Make growth measurable. Build and extend the experimentation and instrumentation layer - feature flags, experiment assignment, event tracking - so every bet the team makes can be evaluated on real data rather than opinion.
Work end to end across the funnel. Move between acquisition, activation, and retention work as the roadmap demands, rather than owning a single narrow surface.
Partner tightly with mobile and product. Most of what you build is consumed by our iOS and Android apps. Youâll design API contracts in conversation with the engineers using them and with the PMs shaping the experiments.
Operate with high agency. Take ambiguous problems, decide on an approach, communicate it clearly in writing, and ship. Escalate deliberately, not by default.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Field Service Engineer is responsible for assisting and performing warranty repairs and the commissioning of SMA utility inverters in the field. PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
⢠Assists with commissioning, troubleshoots, repairs, and analyzes SMA Americaâs utility inverters in the field, via email, telephone, and site visits.
⢠Develops a detailed knowledge of SMAâs utility inverter products, associated SMA accessories, and third-party accessories sold by SMA for use with the inverters.
⢠Maintains an accurate inventory count of spare parts provided by SMA.
⢠Works regularly with high voltage DC electricity, three phase power, and the relevant software and firmware of the inverters.
⢠Maintains a high level of customer satisfaction while striving to lower the costs of field service.
⢠Assists with, performs, and maintains maintenance activities in accordance with the SMA product maintenance manual on assigned sites with SMA customer contractual obligations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The Role
The Senior Applications Engineer is one of the rarest profiles in industrial automation â and one of the most important roles at Standard Bots.
Youâre not a mechanical engineer. Youâre not an electrical engineer. Youâre not a software engineer. Youâre all three, and you know how to make them talk to each other. You can look at a customerâs production line, understand whatâs broken or slow or manual, and figure out how to fix it with a robot. Then you build the proof of concept, get on a plane, and go install it.
From pre to post sale, youâre the one working closely with the sales team to make the solution real. Youâll build the proof of concept, design the integration, write the python scripts, build the fixture, run the wiring, and commission the cell â then train the customerâs team on how to use it. Youâll also help run demos at trade shows, support trainings at customer sites and in our shop, and be the technical backbone for every customer engagement that requires hands-on expertise.

What Youâll Do
Solution Design & Proof of Concept
- Work with the sales team and customers to understand automation goals, production constraints, and integration requirements
- Design practical, buildable solutions around Standard Botsâ hardware â and build the proof of concept yourself to validate it works before anyone signs anything
- Develop application notes, sample code, and supporting documentation that help customers and internal teams understand how to replicate and scale solutions
Field Installation & Integration
- Travel to customer sites to install, program, wire, and commission robotic cells
- Own the integration from mechanical setup through software configuration â fixtures, I/O, PLC handshakes, safety, test, sign-off
- Troubleshoot on-site when things donât go as planned (and sometimes they donât) â you stay until it works
Customer Training & Support
- Train customer operators and technicians on Standard Bots hardware and software â both on-site and at our facility
- Support customers post-install as they find new applications and push the limits of what the robot can do
- Be a trusted technical resource for the accounts youâve worked with â theyâll call you when something comes up
Trade Shows & Demos
- Represent Standard Bots at industry events and trade shows â build the demo, run it live, talk shop with engineers and plant managers on the floor
- Help develop and maintain demo systems that show the breadth of what Standard Bots hardware can do
Internal Collaboration
- Feed real-world integration learnings back to our hardware and software engineering teams â youâre on the front lines and your input shapes the product
- Assist in-house engineering with testing new features, peripherals, and integrations as we expand the platform
What Weâre Looking For
- A genuine trifecta: youâre comfortable with mechanical systems, electrical systems, and software â not just one of the three
- 6+ years of hands-on experience with industrial automation fundamentals: PLC programming and ladder logic, pneumatics, DC power systems (you know the difference between NPN and PNP), robot programming (any platform), and Python scripting
- Proficiency with CAD â SolidWorks preferred, but we care more that you can design and think in 3D than which tool you use
- Customer-facing experience â you can explain a technical integration to an engineer, a plant manager, and an ops director in the same conversation and land differently with each one
- A genuine bias for getting things done in the field, not just in theory â youâd rather build it than write about it
- Comfort with up to 50% domestic travel; this role is hands-on and on-site by nature
- Bachelorâs degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline â or equivalent hands-on experience that tells the same story
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with collaborative robots (UR, Fanuc, KUKA, ABB, or similar)
- Familiarity with machine tending, palletizing, welding, or assembly automation applications
- Experience with vision systems, force/torque sensing, or custom end-of-arm tooling
- Background in a manufacturing or production environment â youâve worked on or near a factory floor before
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is $150,000 to $200,000, depending on experience. We are open to a variety of seniority levels for this role and will build compensation packages that are commensurate with seniority and skill level. Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at Standard Bots. All Full-Time Employees are eligible for Employee Stock Options. We are looking for a versatile Hybrid Data & Application Developer who can work across both application development and data engineering. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience with Java/JavaScript, Python, and ETL, along with exposure to statistical analysis, data/application optimization, and database technologies.
This role is suited for a â Unicornâ profile â someone who can develop application components while also understanding and working with data pipelines, data transformation, and analytics.
